Cinder to Flame Is Proudly Canadian

The 2025 publication frequency for the Cinder to Flame Info Bites newsletter falls on Canada Day! Let’s celebrate Canada’s 158th birthday, an official self-governing nation since July 1st, 1867.


This photo of the Canadian flag on the mast of a ship depicts the strength of being proudly Canadian. We have and will have to navigate through rough seas, tough times and complex challenges.  


Throughout history, settlers, immigrants, permanent and temporary residents from countries around the world came to Canada for a better life, education and economic prosperity. We express gratitude for the indigenous peoples, the original inhabitants of Canada and their descendants. The Inuit, Métis and First Nations hold the land as sacred and all people in Canada should share this view, respecting and appreciating our environment and resources, such as fresh water, fertile land and clean air.


You do not have to be a Canadian to express gratitude for:


  • People: family, friends and communities with whom you can develop productive relationships

  • Homes: a safe place to lay your head down at night with a roof overhead

  • Food: sustenance that keeps our bodies nourished, alive and healthy

  • Health: access to health care and services

  • Community Resources: to support well-being and quality of life such as community centres, recreation programs, libraries, parks, etc.

  • Mobility: a means to get around, on foot, by bike, or public transit, etc.

  • Technology: to make our daily lives easier, and to complicate it too.


This is not intended to be an exhaustive gratitude list. Rather, I encourage you to stop, reflect and be grateful. Then think of how you can help others who are less fortunate.
